What does it mean if someone acts in good faith? And is the concept of good faith in modern societies diminishing?
Cambridge dictionarydefines good faith, “If something is done in good faith, it is done sincerely and honestly.” I think that to be sincere and honest requires vulnerability and therefore courage as highlighted in Brene’ Brown’s work. I feel that we live in a world where, more and more people are out for themselves, in business to make more money or to hide behind a mask/s we see this lack of good faith.
Recently, my family experienced someone suggesting that we weren’t acting in ‘good faith’ and stated that, “Good Faith goes both ways.” Others judgements of you only highlight where they themselves are lacking.
My husband and I aim to raise our beautiful girl with the values of honesty, integrity and teach her not to be fearful of her true, authentic self. If we are to do this, then we have to show up for her honestly and authentically. To have transparency in our interactions and to show her that being vulnerable although difficult is not weakness, it’s courageous.
It’s taken me over a week to finish writing this piece, mostly because I wasn’t sure why I wanted to write about good faith. Then, the other night I was lost in the menial task of dishes when I realised that good faith is my purpose for writing a blog. To be open and honest and share my experiences.
Would love to hear your thoughts on good faith and experiences which relate.
